Writer: 4funyachting4funyachting

Croatia is a country that offers its visitors countless natural beauties, and among the most breathtaking are the two national parks Telašćica and Kornati. Both are located in close proximity in the northern Dalmatian region and are an ideal destination for yachtsmen seeking peace, wildlife and unique scenery.

Telašćica National Park – a natural paradise on the island of Dugi Otok

Telašćica is located on the southeastern tip of the island of Dugi Otok and is known for its vast bay, which provides a perfect shelter for anchoring boats. The area has been protected as a nature park since 1988 and is home to a unique combination of three major natural phenomena:

Telascica National Park

  • Telašćica Bay – one of the safest and best protected bays on the Adriatic with more than 25 small coves and beaches.

  • Salt Lake Mir – a natural lake with salt water that is warmer than the sea and has healing properties.

  • The massive Stene cliffs – rock walls that rise up to 161 meters above sea level and drop steeply to a depth of 90 meters below the surface.

For nature lovers, Telašćica offers unique flora and fauna, including the presence of wild donkeys and a large number of marine life in the crystal clear water.

Kornati National Park – labyrinth of islands and blue lagoons

The Kornati are the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean, consisting of more than 140 islands, islets and rocks, spread over an area of 320 km². The park was declared in 1980 and is a symbol of wild beauty, limestone cliffs and crystal clear water.

Kornati is popular among yachtsmen due to its remoteness and uninhabited nature. There are several bays where you can anchor, one of the most beautiful is Lojena Bay on the island of Levrnaka with its beautiful sandy beach. In addition, you can admire:

  • Metlina Peak (237 m) – the highest point of the archipelago with a magnificent view of the sea.

  • Kornati corals and the underwater world - ideal for diving and snorkeling.

  • Historical remains – ancient Illyrian walls and medieval chapels scattered across the islands.

Tips for visiting

  • If you are going to the national parks by yacht, you must purchase an entry permit. We recommend doing this in advance online , as prices are higher on site.

  • The best time to visit is from May to September, when the sea is warmest and the weather is stable.

  • There is limited infrastructure in both Kornati and Telašćica, so it is important to have enough water and food supplies.

  • For adrenaline lovers, it is worth climbing the Stene cliffs or exploring the underwater caves in Kornati.

In conclusion

Telašćica and Kornati are true treasures of Croatia, best enjoyed from the deck of a yacht. Whether you are looking for peace in hidden coves, adventure among the rocks or unique scenery, these places are guaranteed to captivate you. If you are planning a yachting route through northern Dalmatia, you definitely shouldn't miss a visit to these parks!
